Real Wedding: Stephanie & Dave

Good food and good music are really all you need for a great party, so when the bride's a chef and the groom is a musician, you know there are good times to be had. Plus, Annie McElwain did such a beautiful job of capturing the emotion between Stephanie and Dave, as well as the pretty details, and I just had to share it with you.

Stephanie found her Peter Langner dress at Glamour Closet, an off-the-rack shop that sells designer samples, for less than half the original price. She says, "I love that dress... It needed a lot of work done on little nicks and tears, but my seamstress made it look brand new."

Stephanie shares one of her favorite moments from the day: I loved the 'reveal' that Annie set up. I'll never forget the look on Dave's face! Plus, [seeing each other before the ceremony meant] we got to enjoy our cocktail hour. Highly recommended!

Stephanie wore gold sandals by Stuart Weitzman. Her engagement ring was the only piece of jewelry she wore.

After two months of searching for a venue, the couple attended a wedding at the SmogShoppe, and knew they had found the perfect place. As Stephanie says, it "was one of the coolest and funkiest venues I've ever seen while still being beautiful and elegant." Stephanie's uncle officiated the ceremony. A close friend played three Led Zeppelin songs on acoustic guitar.

Dave wore a charcoal gray Hugo Boss suit.

As sous-chef of L.A.'s AOC, it was important to Stephanie that she and Dave could choose their own caterer, which is one of the reasons they chose SmogShoppe for their venue. Lucques, the sister restaurant to AOC, catered the wedding. Says the bride, "The menu was very special to me as it was designed by my boss, the chef/owner, Suzanne Goin. I knew I wanted roast suckling pigs that we get from one of our local farmers, and she filled in the rest. Our signature cocktails were the Lucques gimlet, and a white peach bellini with prosecco."

There was a bit of a farmers market motif to the wedding, starting with the escort cards that Stephanie and a friend made from copies of vintage seed packets.

Everyone enjoyed a slideshow on the giant screen that takes up one wall of the venue. All of the reception music was, as Stephanie says, "painstakingly programmed on an iPod by my music-obsessed husband."

Holly Vesecky of Holly Flora executed Stephanie's vision of using seasonal, late-summer produce for the centerpieces.

Some advice from the bride: Focus your energy on planning the aspects of the wedding that are most important to you. For us, it was the food and the music. There's so much pressure on brides for every single last detail of the wedding to be Martha Stewart perfect - you can drive yourself so crazy by reading too many wedding magazines! We didn't have favors, ceremony programs, letterpressed invitations, any real "wedding colors." I didn't even have time to get a manicure or buy jewelry! Also, give yourself at least a week off of work beforehand... I had three days and I would have liked more time to relax.

In addition to passed desserts, guests enjoyed a red velvet cake made by Stephanie's friend and co-worker, Beth Creasey-Griffiths.

Thank you so much to Stephanie and Dave for sharing your wedding day with us - best wishes to the two of you! And thank you to Annie McElwain for taking the time to share these lovely photos with us!
