I love the "Hostess with the Mostess" blog (www.hostessblog.com). It is a daily read for me. She posted last week about the Bridal Bar Boutique in LA. It states on their web site that the Bridal Bar "is a boutique that supplies a complimentary peek at the pre-screened best of the best in the wedding industry. The founders have searched high and low to compile an extensive group of event professionals who have been cordially invited to display their works based on style, experience, and impeccable reputation in their fields of expertise." The boutique was started by Harmony Walton, a former editor at Inside Wedding magazine (one of my favorite bridal magazines). She saw a need to educate brides beyond what they could find in the magazine. You can find more information about the Bridal Bar on their web site at: The Bridal Bar.
Get ready - this wedding is full of so many wonderful details, and I had the hardest time narrowing down which images to post, so I just made it a big post with lots of gorgeous photos. By the talented Joel Flory, of course! And it's in one of the most incredibly beautiful places, just across the Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco. But I don't need to tell you about it - see for yourself!
The bride wore a strapless dress by San Francisco-based designer, Amy Kuschel, and accessorized with comfortable white flip-flops from Tracey Asai Designs. Chestnut & Vine did all of the gorgeous flowers.
Adrienne and Jake had their first look at the gorgeous Cavallo Point in Sausalito.
In true San Francisco style, fog rolled in from the bay, making for some beautiful photos.
The wedding took place at the Marin Headlands Center for the Arts. The bride's mother spent tons of time making flowers from a variety of patterned papers which decorate the benches at the ceremony.
Guests found envelopes of vintage handkerchiefs waiting for them at the ceremony - Adrienne lined the envelopes with images from vintage wedding greeting cards. The programs were embellished with buttons from her mother's collection.
As Adrienne and her dad were about to walk down the aisle, there was a long pause in the music. The bride says, "I couldn't deal with everyone staring it me, so I said Hi everyone! and everyone laughed."
Multi-colored tissue paper pom-poms decorated the altar space.
Carrying the fonts and flower motif over from their invitations, Adrienne and Jake made the programs, menus, and escort cards. Adrienne found an old set of cabinet doors, mounted them with fabric and ribbon, and clothespinned the escort cards to the ribbon - what a clever display!
Instead of a traditional guest book, the couple had a "Filofax" - guests were asked to write notes on cards made from a variety of colorful paper, and then to file them alphabetically.
The family-style meal was catered by Katie Powers. Everything was organic and local, from the heirloom tomato and summer melon salad to the penne with corn and caramelized red onions.
An entire table was devoted to a cupcake buffet, all thoughtfully presented on vintage cake stands that Adrienne collected on eBay. The cupcakes were from the couple's favorite bakery, La Farine.
The guests could take home little kraft paper bags of the couple's favorite candies, customized with a rubber stamp from Berkeley Stamp & Engraving and an orange tag, and arranged in a vintage 7up crate.
Another favor that Adrienne and Jake had for their guests were CDs of some of their favorite songs. The kraft paper covers were decorated with vintage food labels the bride found on eBay.
Outside the venue, a bench was made more welcoming with family quilts and plants potted in galvanized buckets - guests were encouraged to sit, relax, and take in the view. I think this photo is probably a good example of some advice that Adrienne has for other brides: "Try to savor the moments and be in the moment as much as you can. It goes by so fast!"
Congratulations Adrienne and Jake! Your wedding was full of so many thoughtful details, and I'm not sure you could have picked a better venue. And thank you so much to Joel Flory for sharing these gorgeous photos. Joel is so talented - be sure to check out his blog for even more incredible eye candy from Adrienne and Jake's wedding.
Today's feature is actually a rehearsal dinner, but I think it could just as easily be a really fun wedding, and it felt like a really fun theme for the Fourth of July weekend. Laurie Arons created this retro hoedown party for a bride and groom in Calistoga, and Thayer Allyson Gowdy captured it all in these great shots...
The wedding took place at a private home in Northern California.
During the cocktail hour guests enjoyed a full bar, including the signature drink of whiskey sours, as well as mesquite grilled prawns and chipotle deviled eggs, provided by Daniel Ripley Catering. Dinner included buttermilk fried chicken, barbecue ribs, biscuits, cornbread and coleslaw.
Everyone came dressed in their cowboy gear! Welcome baskets included the classic children's book This is San Francisco, old fashioned peanut brittle, Popchips, sunscreen, a San Francisco/Napa Valley Zagat guide customized with the couple's wedding date (a gift from the Zagats, close friends of the couple), a tin of roasted almonds from Torn Ranch, Calistoga mineral water, and a detailed welcome letter listing the weekend's activities.
A bluegrass band, booked through Innovative Entertainment, serenaded the cocktail hour, and played after dinner.
PSPaper created the table names - each one named after vintage western movies and shows.
Guests enjoyed a country western themed movie about the bride and groom!
After dinner there was square dancing, complete with a caller.
The bride loves cake, so she had Perfect Endings make a display of home-style favorites, including devil's food, banana, spiced pecan, and red velvet. There were also s'mores (with organic dark chocolate, and homemade marshmallows and grahams - of course!) to end the evening. Guests were sent home with small burlap bags filled with retro candy.
If this doesn't look like a fun time, then I don't know what does! Congratulations Chrissy and Alex, and thank you so much to Laurie Arons and Thayer Allyson Gowdy for sharing this wonderful party with us. You can also see some of Thayer's pics of the actual wedding day over on Laurie's blog.
I love Nicole Miller. Her wedding dresses are wonderful. I noticed that she also now has a line of lovely bridesmaids dresses. But she also has a fabulous ready-to-wear collection. Too fabulous. Just the right thing to twirl in at your engagement party. See more on her web site. Here are my favorites:

Title: Black Sabbath - Fairies Wear Boots
Black Sabbath has been so influential in the development of heavy metal rock music as to be a defining force in the style. The group took the blues-rock sound of late '60s acts like Cream, Blue Cheer, and Vanilla Fudge to its logical conclusion, slowing the tempo, accentuating the bass, and emphasizing screaming guitar solos and howled vocals full of lyrics expressing mental anguish and macabre fantasies. If their predecessors clearly came out of an electrified blues tradition, Black Sabbath took that tradition in a new direction, and in so doing helped give birth to a musical style that continued to attract millions of fans decades later. ________________________________________
Goin home, late last night Suddenly I got a fright Yeah I looked through the window and surprised what I saw Fairy boots were dancing with a dwarf,
All right now!
Fairies wear boots and you gotta believe me Yeah I saw it, I saw it, I tell you no lies Yeah fairies wear boots and you gotta believe me I saw it, I saw it with my own two eyes,
Well all right now!
So I went to the doctor See what he could give me He said son, son, youve gone too far. cause smokin and trippin is all that you do.
